Anambra Governorship Poll to Be Litmus Test for ADC’s Growing Strength, Says Candidate John Nwosu

As campaigns for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election gather momentum, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is positioning the crucial poll as a significant test of its burgeoning strength and the viability of its newly formed coalition. The party’s governorship candidate, Mr. John Chuma Nwosu, and other leaders have asserted that the election will showcase the party’s capacity to offer a credible alternative to the state’s political landscape.

This declaration follows the ADC’s recent “Coalition Convergence” in Awka on June 9, 2025, which brought together a diverse alliance of political parties, civil society groups, and grassroots stakeholders. The gathering served as a strategic summit aimed at uniting forces to “reclaim Anambra” and “restore dignity, governance, and visionary leadership” to the state.

Nwosu, an accomplished tech-preneur and security expert, emphasized that the ADC-led coalition’s strength lies in its “cohesion and capacity to attract leaders of integrity.” He affirmed that his candidacy, coupled with the coalition’s broad appeal, is a strategic move towards competence-based leadership, moving beyond mere popularity contests.

“What we face today is nothing short of a national crisis – rampant corruption, mass poverty, kidnapping, banditry, and indecisive leadership,” Nwosu declared. “ADC offers a veritable platform for those determined to change this narrative through perseverance, diligence, and people-focused governance.”

The ADC candidate recently received a major boost with the official endorsement from the Anambra Renaissance Group, a prominent civil society organization. The group, in a communique issued on June 21, 2025, in Awka, described their decision to back Nwosu as a “necessary step to preserve the soul of the state” and usher in a more pragmatic and inclusive government.

The ADC’s campaign, which officially flagged off on June 11, 2025, is focused on a grassroots-driven, issue-based approach, seeking to galvanize public support by addressing critical challenges such as public safety, job creation, and infrastructural development. The party also acknowledges the vital role of the diaspora community in shaping the future of the state.

With 16 political parties cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to contest the November 8 election, the race is expected to be keenly contested. Major contenders include the incumbent All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with Governor Charles Soludo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fielding Eze Nwafo Jude, the All Progressives Congress (APC) with Nicholas Ukachukwu, and the Labour Party’s George Mogbalu, among others.

Political observers are keenly watching whether the ADC’s strategic coalition and its focus on competence will significantly realign the political dynamics in Anambra State and provide a formidable challenge to the established parties.
