Anambra Government Urges Voters to Reject Peter Obi in 2027 Election
The Anambra State Government has urged voters not to support Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, in the upcoming 2027 general election. This message was shared on the state’s official X account managed by the office of Governor Charles Soludo on Monday.
The government accused Obi of damaging the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra. They claimed that while President Bola Tinubu supported the party, Obi worked against it. In their post, they described Obi as a betrayal, stating, “A betrayal alert for Ndi APGA. Since 2014, Obi has had one mission: to destroy the party that made him.”
Governor Soludo has expressed his support for President Tinubu, citing a friendship that has lasted 22 years. He praised Tinubu’s economic reforms and encouraged political parties that consider themselves progressive to unite for the sake of democracy and development.
In July, APGA officially endorsed Tinubu as their candidate for the 2027 elections. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, explained that the absence of their presidential candidate’s name on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s nomination portal does not mean they failed to follow electoral rules. He noted that the decision to support Tinubu came after thorough discussions within the party.
Recently, Obi and Soludo have clashed over financial issues related to projects from Obi’s time as governor. Obi stated he has been quiet recently due to mourning his late brother and friend. He also emphasized that he is not seeking to return to the governorship, even if the law changes.
Obi has defended himself against claims of leaving behind debt, saying the figures cited were misrepresented and involved funds from international programs, not personal loans. As of now, there has been no response from Obi or his team regarding the Anambra government’s accusations.
