Ambassador Nwaobiala Praises Philanthropist Joseph Onah Over Prestigious National Diaspora Award
Nigeria’s diplomatic mission in Côte d’Ivoire has celebrated international businessman and community leader High Chief Joseph Ajah Onah after he was conferred with the 2026 National Diaspora Merit Award in Abuja.
The official commendation was delivered by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, Ezenwa Chukwuemeka Nwaobiala, who lauded Onah’s relentless dedication to community development and the welfare of Nigerians residing abroad.
Onah, who serves as the President of the Benue State Union in Côte d’Ivoire, was presented with the honor at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa during the grand finale of the National Diaspora Day celebration. Organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), the event brought together senior government representatives, diplomats, and prominent diaspora figures from across the globe.
The award carried extra prestige as High Chief Onah emerged as the sole recipient representing Côte d’Ivoire at this year’s national ceremony. NiDCOM cited his extensive track record in entrepreneurship, humanitarian relief, and his efforts to promote unity and a positive image for Nigeria within his host country.
In his message on behalf of the Nigerian Embassy in Abidjan, Ambassador Nwaobiala described the national recognition as a well-deserved acknowledgment of Onah’s selfless service and patriotic contributions.
“Your achievement serves as an inspiration to the Nigerian Diaspora and underscores the invaluable role which Nigerians abroad continue to play in contributing to national development,” Ambassador Ezenwa Chukwuemeka Nwaobiala remarked. “This honor is a clear testament to your unwavering commitment to advancing Nigeria’s image and protecting the welfare of our citizens.”
Reacting to the commendation, community members and diaspora stakeholders praised Onah’s journey from humble beginnings in Benue State to becoming a celebrated pillar of support in West Africa, viewing his presidential award as a win for the entire Nigerian community in Côte d’Ivoire.
