Akinyelure Denies Political Alliance with Governor Aiyedatiwa for 2027 Elections

Senator Patrick Akinyelure, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Ondo Central Senatorial District, has denied rumors of a political alliance with Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa ahead of the 2027 elections. The speculation arose after Akinyelure visited the Government House in Akure, shortly after the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership reportedly rejected the governor’s preferred candidates for National Assembly seats.

Akinyelure explained that his visit was not about forming a political arrangement. Instead, he sought clarity on his chances of securing the APC senatorial ticket. He stated that the governor informed him the ticket had already been assigned to someone else. “I thanked him for being truthful,” Akinyelure said, emphasizing that there was no political pact between them.

After realizing he could not obtain the APC ticket, Akinyelure decided to join the ADC. He expressed the need for a platform to continue serving his constituents, stating, “You only become relevant to your people when you stay long in service.” He highlighted his commitment to integrity and loyalty to political parties, recalling his time in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his resignation after completing his tenure.

Akinyelure clarified that his move to the ADC was not part of a coalition against the APC. He maintained that his focus is on effectively representing the people of Ondo Central, regardless of their political affiliations. He also urged Governor Aiyedatiwa to ensure fair elections in the state, reinforcing his commitment to the welfare and development of his constituents.

Furthermore, Akinyelure expressed his desire to return to the National Assembly to complete legislative work he started during his previous term. He believes he has the experience and connections to bring development to Ondo Central, regardless of who becomes president in 2027.
