ADC Candidate Calls for Financial Transparency Ahead of 2027 Elections in Sokoto

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for governor in Sokoto State, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, has urged Governor Ahmed Aliyu to publicly share financial records from May 2023 to September 2026. Dan’iya believes that residents deserve to see how public funds have been managed as the state prepares for the 2027 elections.

In a statement from his media aide, Dan’iya called for a detailed report on the state’s revenue from various sources, including the Federation Account and internal funds. He emphasized that transparency is crucial for residents to understand how much money has been received and spent, and what benefits have come from it.

Dan’iya’s request follows Aliyu’s comments about focusing on achievements rather than attacking opponents. While Dan’iya agrees that campaigns should be based on issues, he insists that a government’s performance should be measured by its openness about financial matters.

He also extended his request to the 23 local government areas in Sokoto, asking for their financial records during the same period. This includes monthly allocations, internal revenue, and spending on local services. Dan’iya believes that making this information public will allow residents and watchdogs to assess how well public resources are being used.

Additionally, he called for details on project costs, contractor names, and the status of completed projects. Dan’iya argued that simply announcing projects or spending figures is not enough; there must be clear evidence linking money received to services delivered.

As political parties gear up for the upcoming elections, issues like governance, accountability, and development are expected to be hot topics in Sokoto and beyond. Dan’iya’s challenge to Aliyu reflects a growing demand for transparency in government spending and public service delivery.
