Power Supply Alert: Enugu DisCo Announces Two-Day Outage in Anambra, Enugu

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has notified its customers in Anambra and parts of Enugu State to prepare for a two-day power outage, confirming that the disruption is due to a planned maintenance schedule by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). The planned outage is scheduled to commence on Sunday, August 31, and will last until Monday, September 1, 2025.

According to a statement from the EEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, the maintenance is necessary to address a technical fault at the TCN station in Onitsha Sub-Region. This is to replace “insulation flashover of porcelain insulator” which caused a partial loss of power in the 330kv switchyard on August 21. TCN explicitly stated that the problem was not due to an explosion as some reports had claimed.

The affected areas include all customers across Anambra State and those in Oji River, Enugu State. EEDC has assured residents that it is in close communication with the TCN team, which is working to rectify the situation as quickly as possible.

This planned maintenance comes amidst a broader context of power supply challenges in the region. Recent months have seen a series of outages, some of which were linked to a dispute between EEDC and state regulators over a new tariff order. However, this specific two-day outage is strictly for necessary maintenance to improve the long-term reliability of power supply in the affected areas.
