Former Lawmaker Slams Amaechi’s Ministerial Performance, Citing Neglected South-South Projects
A former member of the House of Representatives, Oghene Egoh, has strongly criticized former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of failing to deliver substantial developmental projects to the South-South region during his tenure. Egoh’s comments were a direct response to Amaechi’s recent critique of the ongoing Lagos-Calabar coastal road project.
Speaking to journalists, Egoh, who recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), argued that Amaechi lacks the moral authority to condemn the current administration’s infrastructure efforts. He claimed that while Amaechi served as minister, he neglected vital infrastructure in the Niger Delta and instead focused on projects in other parts of the country.
“Amaechi did not do enough for the South-South when he was minister of transportation,” Egoh stated. He pointed to projects like the railway to the Niger Republic as evidence of what he viewed as a misplaced focus during Amaechi’s time in office. In contrast, Egoh described the Lagos-Calabar coastal road as a “transformational project” that will boost trade and drive economic growth in the region.
The criticism highlights the ongoing political tensions and debates over resource allocation and regional development in Nigeria. While Amaechi’s tenure as minister did include the completion of the Itakpe-Warri rail line, critics like Egoh believe more should have been done for the South-South, given the significant portfolio he held.
