Oyo Advisory Council Hails Makinde’s Circular Road as “Legacy Project”
The Oyo State Advisory Council has lauded Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration for its commitment to the construction of the 110-kilometer Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road, describing the ongoing project as a “legacy project” that will redefine the state’s economic landscape.
The commendation was delivered on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, by the Council’s Chairman, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), during an inspection tour of the expansive road project. Ayorinde, who led other members of the advisory body, expressed profound satisfaction with the quality and pace of work being executed.
“We can see that work is going at a very intense pace on this Circular Road, and it is quite commendable. It is one thing to have content and another thing to deliver. We are very satisfied that this road will be delivered on time. The level of the work is very good,” Ayorinde stated.
He further highlighted the multi-faceted benefits of the ambitious infrastructure, noting that it is poised to significantly ease traffic congestion within the Ibadan metropolis, stimulate robust economic growth, and unlock new opportunities for real estate development and hospitality businesses along its corridor. The chairman also emphasized that the circular road would serve as a vital arterial link, connecting Oyo State more efficiently to other states across the country.
“This is a legacy project. You can see that it was conceived by the previous administrations, but it is being actualized by the current government. Before Governor Makinde came in, he promised to deliver on this project. We are happy with what we have seen,” Ayorinde added, commending Governor Makinde for bringing the long-anticipated project to fruition.
According to the Council, the project has already begun opening up new towns along its path and is effectively decongesting traffic within Ibadan, as travellers with no direct business in the city centre can bypass it.
The inspection team, which included Advisory Council members such as Hon. (Chief) Babatunde Oduyoye, Alhaji Bashir Ajibade, Chief Adewale Atande, Hon. Abiola Ajaja, Dr Aderemi Ayodele, Pastor Akinade Alamu, and Alhaji Rasak Gbadegesin, was conducted around the project site by the State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Hon. Mojeed Mogbojubola.
The Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road, which connects the Lagos-Ibadan expressway en route through Oluyole, Ona-Ara, and Egbeda Local Government Areas, has recently seen its scope expanded by the State Executive Council to include additional infrastructure like toll plazas, flyovers, and underpasses. The entire project is targeted for full operational status by 2027, promising a transformative impact on connectivity and commerce in Oyo State.
