Federal Agricultural College Set to Revolutionize Ekiti’s Food Production, Says Rep. Ojuawo

The presence and ongoing development of a federal college of agriculture in Ekiti State are poised to significantly enhance the state’s agricultural output and bolster food security, according to Representative Akin Layi Ojuawo. The legislator, who represents Ekiti North Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives, recently expressed strong optimism about the institution’s potential to drive agricultural growth and empower local farmers.

Rep. Ojuawo highlighted the Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiaku, in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, as a pivotal institution that will serve as a catalyst for agricultural revolution in the region. He emphasized that the college is uniquely positioned to address critical gaps in modern farming practices, research, and technical expertise among local farmers.

“This federal agricultural college is not just an academic institution; it is a strategic asset for our state’s future in food production,” Ojuawo stated. He elaborated that the college would provide cutting-edge research, extension services, and vocational training that are essential for increasing yields, improving crop varieties, and introducing sustainable farming methods to farmers across Ekiti. He pointed out that with proper utilization, the college’s resources and human capital could transform subsistence farming into a highly profitable and mechanized industry.

The legislator noted that the establishment of such a specialized institution directly aligns with national efforts to diversify the economy through agriculture and reduce reliance on food imports. He believes the college will produce a new generation of agripreneurs and provide direct support to existing farmers, equipping them with the knowledge and tools needed to boost productivity.

Rep. Ojuawo also mentioned that his commitment to developing his constituency extends to maximizing the benefits of federal institutions within the area. He pledged to continue facilitating collaborations between the college, the state government, and local farming communities to ensure that research findings and agricultural innovations translate directly into tangible improvements in food production at the grassroots level.

The focus on agricultural development through education and research is seen as crucial for Ekiti State, given its vast arable land and significant agricultural potential. Stakeholders believe that with institutions like the Federal College of Agriculture, Ekiti is well on its way to becoming a leading hub for food production in Nigeria, contributing significantly to both state and national food security objectives.
