Tinubu Establishes Presidential Economic Coordination Council and Economic Management Team Emergency Taskforce
ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu unveiled the establishment of the Presidential Economic Coordination Council (PECC) and the formation of the Economic Management Team Emergency Taskforce (EET) on Wednesday. This move, aimed at enhancing the nation’s economic governance structures, was disclosed through a statement released by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, in Abuja.
The PECC includes distinguished leaders and key government officials, with President of Nigeria serving as Chairman, Vice-President as Vice-Chairman, and various ministers holding positions. Notably, members from the private sector, such as Aliko Dangote and Tony Elumelu, will join for a one-year term, subject to the President’s directive.
Additionally, in response to immediate economic challenges, President Tinubu has established the EET, chaired by Minister of Finance, Wale Edun. Comprising government officials and industry leaders, the taskforce is tasked with devising and executing an emergency economic plan. It is mandated to present a comprehensive plan covering the next six months to the PECC for immediate implementation within two weeks.
The EET, chaired by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, will convene twice weekly and includes key government officials and industry experts to address economic challenges effectively.
