“PDP’s Banky W and APC’s Ibrahim Obanikoro Contest February 25 Election Results with Petition

The National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal, situated at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Lagos, has invalidated the election victory of Mr. Thaddeus Atta of the Labour Party in the Eti Osa Federal Constituency. In a late-night lead judgment delivered, the tribunal declared the elections inconclusive, mandating the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organize a supplementary election within 90 days in 33 polling units where elections could not be conducted. Responding to the ruling on Tuesday morning via a post on X (formerly Twitter), Atta reassured his constituents that there was no need to panic, emphasizing that he was not “sacked” by the court. He stated, “The Tribunal has simply ordered a re-run (supplementary election) in the 32 polling units where elections did not hold. We will continue working for Etiosa. I urge constituents to keep calm as we are unshaken. We will get through this together.” Bankole Wellington (Banky W) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had been declared second in the initial polls, and the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro (IBO) both filed petitions to challenge the results of the February 25 election. In the initial results, INEC had declared Atta the winner with 24,075 votes, while Banky W and IBO were reported to have received 18,668 and 16,901 votes, respectively.
