Defence Headquarters Confirms Loss of 36 Officers in Niger State Ambush

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed the tragic loss of 36 officers in an insurgent ambush within the Zungeru area of Niger State. The attack resulted in the unfortunate demise of Nigerian Army personnel.

In a separate incident, a Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter, engaged in a critical casualty evacuation mission, unfortunately crashed in the Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of the state on Monday. Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, provided these details during a Thursday briefing, shedding light on the casualties from both the ambush and the helicopter crash that occurred on August 14, 2023.

While addressing the cause of the helicopter crash, Major General Buba reiterated that an ongoing investigation is actively underway to ascertain the underlying factors.

He called upon citizens to remain vigilant against terrorist propaganda and to steadfastly uphold their patriotic spirit. This information was shared during the biweekly briefing of the Defence Media Operations.
