Anambra Panel Confirms Mmesoma’s Admission of UTME Result Manipulation

An eight-page report released by the committee of inquiry appointed by the Anambra State Government has verified that Mmesoma Ejikeme, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School in Nnewi, manipulated her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result using her phone. The report confirms that Mmesoma fraudulently increased her score to 362, while her actual score was 249.

Mmesoma gained nationwide attention when she claimed to be the top scorer in the 2023 UTME with a score of 362. This led to her receiving a ₦‎3 million scholarship from Innocent Chukwuma, Chairman of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing. However, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) later refuted Mmesoma’s claim, stating that her actual score was 249.

In response to the controversy, Governor Chukwuma Soludo established a committee of inquiry to investigate the matter. The committee conducted interviews with relevant parties, including Mmesoma, JAMB officials, the principal of Anglican Girls Secondary School, and others involved in the process.

According to the report, JAMB confirmed that Mmesoma repeatedly requested her result and received the same score of 249 on her phone. In the presence of her principal and Education Secretary, Mmesoma admitted to manipulating her result using her phone and acknowledged the accuracy of JAMB’s account of the events.

The committee sought to understand the motive behind Mmesoma’s actions, but she offered no explanation. As a result, the committee expects Mmesoma to issue a written apology to JAMB, Anglican Girls Secondary School, and the Anambra state government.

The report highlighted various discrepancies in Mmesoma’s claims, including inconsistencies in her registration number, date of birth, and the use of an outdated notification of results template. The committee commended JAMB for their thorough investigation and the information provided regarding their interactions with Mmesoma.

By uncovering the truth behind the manipulation, the committee hopes to rectify the misunderstandings, misconceptions, and deception that have circulated in the public domain.
