NDC Accuses APC of Blocking Campaigns by Denying Hotel Access in Abuja
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of trying to limit democratic activities and obstruct opposition parties. They allege that hotels in Abuja have denied them access for meetings.
In a statement shared on their X platform, the NDC called on the APC to allow all political parties to campaign freely ahead of the 2027 general election. They claim to have faced unfair treatment from several hotels, even after meeting all requirements to use their facilities.
One unnamed hotel reportedly canceled agreements for the NDC’s use of its space twice, including for their second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in June 2026. The NDC also stated that another hotel refused their request for a meeting venue, citing instructions from an undisclosed authority.
Additionally, the NDC mentioned that their recent event to unveil the National Campaign Council was almost disrupted when the venue demanded a refund, indicating they were no longer willing to host the meeting. However, the NDC insisted on using the venue since they had already paid, which eventually led the hotel to honor the arrangement.
The NDC described these incidents as undemocratic and an effort to hinder opposition activities. They emphasized that the APC should allow all parties to campaign without obstacles, enabling Nigerians to choose their leaders freely. They urged supporters of democracy to condemn what they see as actions against the public and democratic values.
