Nigerian Teen Sentenced to Four Years for Attempted Porsche Theft in London

A 19-year-old Nigerian, Fawaz Oyedeji, has been sentenced to four years in prison in the UK for trying to steal a Porsche Cayenne worth £72,500. The incident occurred in Southwark, London, on March 18.

Oyedeji posed as a potential buyer after responding to an online ad for the luxury vehicle. He arranged to meet the seller at the victim’s home to inspect the car. Once inside, he pulled out what looked like a gun and demanded the car keys.

The victim bravely fought back, which caused Oyedeji to abandon the robbery attempt and flee. The police were called, and an investigation quickly followed.

Detectives traced the phone used to set up the meeting back to Oyedeji. They found he had been near both his home and the scene of the attempted theft. CCTV footage captured his movements around the time of the crime, and officers recovered clothing he wore during the incident.

Oyedeji was arrested at his home less than two days after the robbery attempt. A jury found him guilty after a short deliberation on November 4. Detective Constable Alex Long, who led the case, commended the victim for his bravery and cooperation with the police.

Long also advised anyone buying or selling cars privately to be cautious, suggesting they leave if something feels off and to call emergency services if needed.
