Residents Urge Update on Delayed Gwagwa-Airport Rail Project in Abuja

Residents living near the Gwagwa-Airport railway line in Abuja are asking officials for an update on the project’s progress. They are worried about delays in finishing key parts of the rail system.

Abubakar Rilwanu, a local resident, noted that work on essential facilities, such as power supply for the railway stations, seems to have slowed down significantly. He pointed out that the Gwagwa-Airport area is home to three of the twelve planned railway stations that will connect the Central Business District to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

Rilwanu expressed frustration over the slow progress, stating that residents are eager for the project to be completed. He believes the rail system could greatly enhance transportation and connectivity in the capital. He urged the Federal Government and the Federal Capital Territory Administration to share information about the project’s status and when it might be finished.

He added that completing the project would bring economic advantages, such as reducing costs associated with diesel generators currently used at the stations. Connecting these stations to the national electricity grid could lessen or eliminate the need for diesel power.

Another resident, Ishaya Madaki, echoed these concerns, questioning why such an important project is taking so long to advance. He remarked that the slow pace does not reflect well on the government’s commitment to infrastructure development in the capital.

Attempts to reach the construction company for a comment were unsuccessful, as calls to their public inquiries line went unanswered.
