NSCDC to Establish Six New Agro Rangers Bases in Oyo to Enhance Security
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Oyo State is planning to open six new operational bases for its Agro Rangers unit. This move aims to reduce conflicts between farmers and herders and to boost security in farming areas.
Currently, the Agro Rangers have six bases, and this expansion will double that number to twelve. Commandant Augustine Padonu shared this information while reviewing the unit’s activities, which resolved nearly 400 disputes related to farming from January to October 2026.
These disputes included cases of farmland destruction and cattle poisoning, indicating ongoing tensions that threaten farming in the region. Monthly reports showed varying numbers of cases handled, with the unit addressing 64 cases in January and 47 in October.
The new bases will help extend security efforts to more farming communities, aiming to prevent conflicts from turning violent. In addition to operational duties, the Agro Rangers also conduct mediation and awareness programs to encourage peaceful interactions among farmers, herders, and others involved in agriculture.
Padonu emphasized the importance of gathering intelligence, conducting regular patrols, and collaborating with other security agencies to protect agricultural investments and maintain peace in rural areas. He urged community members to engage in dialogue, respect property boundaries, and report any suspicious activities.
The NSCDC remains committed to enhancing agricultural security and supporting food production in Oyo State, according to Public Relations Officer SC Samuel Opebiyi.
