Kano Traffic Agency Charges TikToker with Defamation over Social Media Videos

The Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has taken legal action against Rabi’u Sani Zage, a TikToker, for allegedly defaming its officials through social media videos. The case was brought before a magistrate court on Friday, October 30, 2026.

KAROTA claims that Zage recorded and shared videos of its personnel while they were working. The agency says these videos were intended to make the officials look bad and embarrass them. According to a statement from KAROTA’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim Sharada, Zage has been caught multiple times doing this.

Zage is facing eight charges related to defamation. He reportedly admitted guilt to all charges and has been placed in custody while awaiting further court proceedings. The next court date is set for Monday, November 2, 2026, when the court will also address Zage’s request for bail.

KAROTA noted that Zage had previously agreed to stop actions that could harm the reputation of its officials, especially those managing traffic in Kano. However, the agency claims he continued his activities despite this agreement.

KAROTA has emphasized its commitment to protecting the dignity of its personnel as they perform their duties.
