Federal Government Approves King Amachree Airport Development in Rivers State

The Federal Government has given the green light for the King Amachree Airport to be built in Elem Ifoko, located in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State. This approval comes with 11 conditions that must be met before construction can proceed.

The approval was communicated in a letter from Engr. P. T. Vembe, who works in the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development. The letter was sent to Prince Tonye T.J.T. Princewill, the Executive Director of Royal Fouche Services Limited, the company behind the airport project.

The letter, dated October 26, 2026, follows an application made in June 2026 and a site inspection conducted in early September 2026. The airport will be located at specific geographical coordinates in Rivers State.

Among the conditions set by the aviation authorities, the developers must prepare a detailed Airport Master Plan outlining the airport’s development and facilities. They are also required to assess the canal running through the proposed site to find the best way to manage it, which could involve moving the canal or building a bridge.

Other requirements include studies to evaluate flooding risks and drainage needs, as well as a thorough investigation of the site’s soil and groundwater to ensure it is suitable for construction. The developers must also ensure there is reliable road access to the airport for construction and operations.

In response to the approval, Princewill assured that Royal Fouche Services Limited will follow all regulations. He emphasized the importance of involving all stakeholders in the process and expressed confidence in the project’s progress.
