Train Collision Near Madrid Injures Multiple Passengers
Two trains crashed south of Madrid on Wednesday morning, injuring several people, according to local officials. Manuel Galan, the mayor of Urda, confirmed the collision during an interview with public broadcaster TVE.
The crash occurred just before 9:00 am local time. A spokesperson for the Spanish emergency services stated that it was too early to provide details on the number of injuries.
Emergency teams have been deployed to the scene, including several fire crews, three helicopters, and two mobile intensive care units. The rail infrastructure company ADIF also acknowledged the collision and announced that the high-speed rail line from Madrid to the south has been temporarily suspended.
This incident comes less than a year after a tragic rail crash in Adamuz, southern Spain, which resulted in 46 fatalities.
