Chelsea Hosts Tottenham in Crucial London Derby This Weekend
Chelsea will face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday at Stamford Bridge in a key London derby that could impact both teams’ standings in the Premier League.
The Blues have had a strong start to the season, winning four, drawing one, and losing two of their first seven matches. They currently sit in the top four, buoyed by recent victories, including a 5-1 win over Bournemouth and a 2-0 win against Everton. Pedro Neto was a standout player in the last match, scoring twice and helping Chelsea secure their first clean sheet in 22 league games.
With another win, Chelsea could achieve three consecutive league victories for the first time since February. They have also dominated their recent encounters with Tottenham, winning the last six league meetings. A victory on Saturday would set a new club record for consecutive wins against their London rivals.
On the other hand, Tottenham recently broke a six-match winless streak by defeating Coventry 3-1. This win marked their fourth in the Premier League this year and was the first time in 36 matches that they scored more than twice. Despite this, Tottenham remains in 16th place in the league and needs to improve their away performance against Chelsea, having won only once in their last 34 visits to Stamford Bridge.
In terms of team news, Chelsea’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez will miss the match due to a jaw injury. He joins several other players on the injury list, but Malo Gusto is back after recovering from illness. Mike Penders is expected to start in goal, potentially becoming the youngest goalkeeper to start a Premier League match for Chelsea.
For Tottenham, Rodrigo Bentancur is suspended, and several players are sidelined due to injuries. Mykhaylo Mudryk, on loan from Chelsea, is also ineligible to play against his parent club.
