Katsina State Launches N3.1 Billion Grant Program for Small Businesses

The Katsina State Government has started a new grant program worth N3.1 billion to help more than 62,000 small businesses across the state’s 34 local government areas. Governor Dikko Radda announced the initiative, which will be managed by the Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency (KASEDA).

The program aims to boost local businesses, increase household incomes, create jobs, and stimulate the economy. Different types of businesses will receive varying amounts: nano enterprises will get N50,000, micro enterprises will receive N100,000, and small enterprises will be granted N150,000.

Radda emphasized the importance of entrepreneurs, stating that they are vital to the economy. He said, “When we strengthen them, we strengthen the very foundation of Katsina State.” The grant will benefit various trades, including mechanics, tailors, welders, and furniture makers.

In addition to financial support, the program will provide 2,000 business kiosks and customized signboards to enhance visibility for these enterprises. Radda explained that this initiative is not just about giving out money but also about investing in the capacity of local businesses and improving their infrastructure.

The governor noted that the program was developed after assessing businesses along major roads in the state to identify gaps in financing and infrastructure. The findings led to a plan that includes financial grants, kiosks, and signage to help businesses stand out.

Dr. Babangida Ruma, the Director-General of KASEDA, mentioned that a new digital business database would support the program. This database will help target beneficiaries, monitor progress, and inform future policies. Ruma promised that the agency would ensure transparency and accountability in the program’s implementation.
