Police Arrest 15 Suspected Cult Members in Akwa Ibom During Raid
Fifteen suspected cult members were arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police during a raid in Atia Coastal Village, located in Ibeno Local Government Area. The operation took place as part of efforts to tackle criminal activities in the region.
Police Public Relations Officer Timfon John announced the arrests in a statement from Uyo. He explained that the operation was based on intelligence aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts linked to cult activities.
Among those arrested are Ndifreke Paul, known as “Black Satan,” and Etim Oboho. Both are from different local government areas in Akwa Ibom. The police believe the suspects are associated with the Vikings and Iceland confraternities.
Some suspects managed to escape into nearby creeks during the operation. Police are working to capture them and recover more evidence. Items seized include wraps of substances believed to be Indian hemp, a drug known as methamphetamine or “Ice,” and two outboard engines thought to be stolen.
Other recovered items consist of a motorcycle with a registration number that is suspected to be stolen, cult-related berets, and bottles with substances that may be used as charms. The police also found five mobile phones.
The police reiterated their commitment to fighting cultism and drug-related crimes. They warned that anyone involved in such activities should stop, as the police will continue to use intelligence-led strategies to arrest and prosecute offenders. They also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities to the police.
