President Tinubu Meets Senate President Akpabio Ahead of Campaign Launch

President Bola Tinubu met with Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting took place just two days before the All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to kick off its presidential campaign in Kaduna on October 24, 2026.

The closed-door discussion lasted about an hour, but the specific topics they talked about were not disclosed. Akpabio was seen leaving the Villa in his official car around 4:45 PM.

The APC will launch its nationwide presidential campaign in Kaduna on Saturday, October 24, in preparation for the presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027. The party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, confirmed that all preparations for the campaign are complete.

A list released in August named Tinubu as the chairman of the campaign council, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and Yilwatda serving as vice chairmen. Former Zamfara State governor Senator Abdul’aziz Yari was appointed as the Director-General, while Akpabio will serve as Deputy Director-General for the South.

The campaign council was officially inaugurated on October 14. Recently, Tinubu also asked the Senate to quickly confirm new commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission.
