Argentina’s President Milei Labels Spain’s PM Sanchez a ‘Dictator’ During Madrid Visit
Argentinian President Javier Milei visited Madrid on October 21, 2026, where he called Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez a “dictator.” This remark came during an economic forum, where Milei encouraged Spanish voters to remove Sanchez from power in the upcoming elections.
Milei’s comments reflect his ongoing criticism of Sanchez, who has been in office for eight years and is facing challenges ahead of the November 29 general election. Milei urged the audience to “kick the Socialists out,” emphasizing Spain’s historical roots in liberalism.
The Popular Party, the main opposition party in Spain, is expected to win the most seats in the election but may not achieve a majority. This situation could allow the far-right Vox party to play a crucial role in forming the next government.
During his speech, Milei also accused Sanchez of being a “thief” and “corrupt,” amid ongoing investigations into corruption involving Sanchez’s family and former Socialist party leaders. In response, Spanish government spokeswoman Elma Saiz called for respect towards Sanchez, who has defended his administration’s integrity.
Milei’s visit did not include a meeting with Sanchez. Instead, he planned to meet with leaders from the right-wing Vox party and Isabel Diaz Ayuso, the Popular Party leader in Madrid, who has been critical of Sanchez.
This is not the first time Milei has created tension with Sanchez. In 2024, he faced backlash after calling Sanchez’s wife “corrupt,” leading to a diplomatic dispute between Argentina and Spain.
Additionally, Milei criticized left-wing parties in Europe for contributing to economic stagnation and for their immigration policies. His comments come as Spain faces challenges with a significant influx of migrants.
