Support Groups in Kwara Back Tinubu and APC Candidates for 2027 Elections
A coalition of more than 30 groups, known as the Oniyangi Progressive Alliance, has announced its support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in Kwara State. This declaration comes as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The alliance also endorsed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the Kwara Central senatorial seat and Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, for the governorship election. Mohammed Kamaldeen, the coordinator of the Oniyangi Progressive Alliance, shared these details at a press conference in Ilorin.
Abdulazeez Oniyangi, the convener of the alliance, described the group as a welcoming platform for individuals from various backgrounds. He emphasized that the alliance aims to unite support groups and foster a progressive agenda, stating, “This is a house that is open to everybody.”
Oniyangi expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects in the upcoming elections, acknowledging potential challenges but asserting that the party is well-prepared. He encouraged members to address any internal disagreements and work towards unity, saying, “It is only God that gives and He has given somebody. Let’s address our differences and move forward.”
The alliance believes that AbdulRazaq’s experience in governance will enhance representation for Kwara Central, while Danladi-Salihu’s leadership is seen as vital for promoting fairness and inclusion across the state. They plan to support other APC candidates through grassroots mobilization and effective communication.
Additionally, the alliance highlighted the importance of the Ilorin Innovation Hub, a project they say will create lasting opportunities for young people in the area. Zainab Issa, the Director of Organisation, emphasized that the governor is focused on building legacies that benefit the community long-term.
As preparations for the 2027 elections continue, the Oniyangi Progressive Alliance urged its members to remain united and disciplined, stressing the need for peaceful political engagement and a focus on issues that matter to the people of Kwara State.
