A traditional chief in Ayeka, a town in Ondo State, has been shot dead during the funeral of a fellow chief. The victim, High Chief Akinwalere Akinola, was struck in the head by a bullet during the ceremony.

The incident happened while community members were gathered to honor their late colleague. Eyewitnesses reported that a firearm was discharged, leading to immediate chaos at the event. The exact circumstances of the shooting are still unclear.

Some reports suggest that the gunfire may have been accidental, but the police have not confirmed this. The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, stated that one person has been arrested in connection with the shooting.

Jimoh also mentioned that a thorough investigation is underway to determine what happened and who is responsible for the tragedy.
