SDP Campaign Suspends Activities for One Week After NAF Air Crash

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential campaign, led by Prince Adewole Adebayo and his running mate, Prof. Usman Bugaje, has halted all campaign activities for one week. This decision comes in response to the tragic crash of a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft in Igbokoda, Ondo State, which resulted in the deaths of 25 passengers and crew members.

The suspension of activities took effect immediately and is intended to honor the victims of the crash that occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026. A statement from the campaign’s media director, Comrade Mark Adebayo, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and emphasized the importance of national mourning over political activities during such a tragedy.

The campaign noted, “These fallen heroes and civilians gave their all in service to our fatherland. In moments of such monumental national tragedy, politics must take a backseat to national mourning and deep reflection.” Adebayo and Bugaje also extended their condolences to the Chief of the Air Staff, the Nigerian Air Force leadership, and the families affected by the crash.

In addition to suspending rallies and media events, the campaign called for better insurance policies for military personnel and regular maintenance of military equipment to prevent similar incidents in the future. They expressed solidarity with the Nigerian Air Force and the bereaved families, stating, “We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Nigerian Air Force and the families left behind.”
