Russian Strikes Kill at Least 15 in Ukraine, Civilians Fear for Safety

On October 7, 2026, Russian missile strikes across Ukraine led to at least 15 fatalities, according to authorities. Among those killed, nine were in a missile attack that destroyed a residential building in Pryluky, located in the Chernigiv region.

Emergency services worked tirelessly to search through the debris of the five-storey apartment block. Police reported that by late morning, the number of deaths had risen to nine, including the tragic recovery of three children’s bodies.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned the public the night before about potential large-scale strikes, particularly targeting the country’s energy infrastructure. He described the attacks as some of the most brutal in the ongoing conflict.

In addition to the casualties in Pryluky, two people died in missile strikes in Dnipro and Kremenchuk, while another two were killed in Oleksandriya. In Kyiv, two more fatalities occurred due to a fire in the Darnytskyi neighborhood following a missile attack.

As winter approaches, Kyiv has faced increased attacks, with air raid sirens sounding frequently. Residents sought shelter in subway stations, bringing personal belongings to stay safe during the alerts. One resident, Iryna Rybalchenko, expressed the fear gripping the city, saying that everyone was on high alert.

The Ukrainian air force reported that Russia launched at least 50 missiles and 130 drones overnight, targeting several regions. While some missiles were intercepted, President Zelensky emphasized the urgent need for improved air defenses to protect Ukraine.

As concerns grow over civilian casualties, Ukraine has also intensified its long-range attacks on Russian military sites. President Zelensky stated that Ukraine’s responses to Russian strikes included targeting oil facilities and military training grounds.
