Nigeria and Indonesia Enjoy Over $3 Billion in Annual Trade, Says Ambassador

The Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Bambang Suharto, announced that trade between Nigeria and Indonesia has consistently exceeded $3 billion each year. This strong trade relationship has made Nigeria one of Indonesia’s key trading partners in Africa.

Suharto emphasized that Nigeria plays a vital role in Indonesia’s energy security by supplying essential energy resources. He noted that Indonesian products have become common in Nigerian households and businesses, with some products being produced locally with Nigerian workers.

Despite the existing trade volume, Suharto believes there is still significant potential for growth. Together, Nigeria and Indonesia have a combined market of over 550 million people, characterized by youthful populations and abundant resources.

He highlighted that Indonesian companies in Nigeria are not only investing but also creating jobs and engaging in community support initiatives. The goal is to build a strong partnership that benefits both nations, fostering local industry development and shared opportunities.

Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed from Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs echoed these sentiments, expressing interest in learning from Indonesia’s experiences in various sectors, including manufacturing and agriculture. He called for increased collaboration between businesses and financial institutions in both countries.

Ahmed identified key areas for potential growth, including agriculture, energy, infrastructure, and the digital economy. He also urged both nations to work on overcoming challenges that hinder trade, such as improving market access and business communication.
