PANDEF Mourns Passing of Bamanga Tukur, Recalls His Landmark Port Reforms

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has joined leaders across the political and economic divide in mourning the death of astute politician, elder statesman, and former PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, highlighting his monumental contributions to Nigeria’s institutional and maritime development.

In a condolence statement issued in Port Harcourt, PANDEF reflected on Tukur’s illustrious career in both the public and private sectors, placing special emphasis on his visionary leadership during his tenure as the General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). The regional forum credited him with midwifing vital modernization and structural reforms that revolutionized port operations, enhanced cargo handling capacity, and positioned the nation’s maritime sector for sustained commercial growth.

Beyond his exploits in the maritime industry, PANDEF celebrated Tukur as a quintessential bridge-builder whose political philosophies transcended ethnic and regional divides, championing inclusive governance and national unity throughout his life.

“Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was a detribalized Nigerian, an industrialist of high repute, and a statesman who dedicated his active years to building enduring institutions,” the statement read. “His footprints in the ports sector and national politics remain indelible.”

The forum extended its deepest sympathies to the immediate family, the government, and the people of Adamawa State, praying that Almighty Allah grants them the fortitude to bear the heavy loss and grants the late elder statesman eternal rest.
