House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas Promises Honest and Transparent Elections
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has reassured Nigerians that the federal government and the legislature are firmly committed to ensuring that the 2027 general elections are completely free, fair, and credible.
Addressing stakeholders on the state of the nation’s democracy, Abbas stated that the National Assembly is actively working to strengthen electoral laws and provide the necessary backing to the Independent National Electoral Commission. He emphasized that building public trust in the voting process is a top priority for the current assembly.
The Speaker explained that legislative reforms are focused on tightening loophole-prone areas, improving voting technology, and ensuring that election results reflect the true will of the people. According to him, a reliable electoral system is the foundation for national stability, peace, and good governance.
Abbas also called on political leaders, security forces, and citizens across the country to play their part in upholding democratic values. He warned against electoral violence, vote-buying, and inflammatory rhetoric, urging all political actors to prioritize the peace and unity of the nation as preparations for the next general elections gather momentum.
