Delta Lawmaker Thomas Ereyitomi Denounces Viral Membership Card as ‘Clumsy Forgery’; Reaffirms Total Loyalty to APC Amid Opposition Poaching Rumors
The “political trenches” of Delta State were hit with a wave of clarity on Tuesday as Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, the APC representative for Warri Federal Constituency, moved to “technical-rescue” his reputation from a viral defection rumor. Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the lawmaker dismissed a circulating image of his purported Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) membership card as a “cheap and amateurish forgery” designed to destabilize his relationship with the ruling party.
The controversy erupted just 72 hours after the NDC’s high-profile convention, where the new “mega-party” ratified its southern presidential zoning. As rumors of mass defections began to swirl, a membership card bearing Ereyitomi’s face and a 2026 registration number hit the “digital-age” rumor mills. However, the lawmaker was quick to shut down the portal of speculation. “I am APC through and through,” Ereyitomi declared. “This is nothing more than a desperate attempt by seasonal migrants to use my name to gain cheap popularity for their new platform.”
Ereyitomi, who has been a vocal supporter of the current administration’s maritime and energy reforms, warned that the “2027 transition cycle” is already breeding a dangerous culture of “digital character assassination.” He noted that while the NDC is busy “printing cards for people who didn’t ask for them,” he is focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Warri. “My loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and the APC is not for sale,” he added.
The APC leadership has since rallied behind the lawmaker, with the National Secretariat describing the incident as a sign of the NDC’s “structural emptiness.” To ensure this “technical fracture” doesn’t spread, Ereyitomi’s legal team has reportedly filed a formal complaint with the DSS and the police to investigate the origins of the forged document. For the constituents in Warri, the message is clear: their representative isn’t looking for a new home; he’s doubling down on the one he has.
