First Lady, Peter Obi, and Mrs. Soludo Lead Nigerians in Celebrating Mothers; Call for More Love and Support for Women
Nigeria was filled with joy and celebration on Sunday as leaders and citizens came together to mark Mother’s Day 2026. From the Presidential Villa to small villages, the message was the same: mothers are the heartbeat of the home and the foundation of the country.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu led the tributes, praising mothers for their “extraordinary courage” and for shaping the future of the nation through their children. She reminded everyone that while we often notice big sacrifices, it is the small things mothers do every day, like listening and caring that truly matter.
In his own message, Mr. Peter Obi praised mothers for being the pillars that hold society together. He noted that the prayers of mothers have a lasting impact that goes from one generation to the next. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, added that being a mother is a “sacred duty.” She encouraged children to show their mothers love every single day, not just during celebrations.
The NAFDAC boss, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, used the day to remind leaders that protecting the health of women and children should be a top priority. She said that when mothers are healthy and supported, the whole country becomes stronger and more successful. Across the country, many families went to church and hosted small parties to say “thank you” to the women who raised them.
