Saraki Begs Wike, Turaki Factions to Drop Lawsuits and Save PDP from Extinction with a Fresh National Convention

With the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reeling from a “State of Harmony” crisis that has seen its governors fleeing to the ruling party, former Senate President Bukola Saraki has stepped in with a desperate plea for sanity. On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Saraki called on all warring factions to “drop their swords,” withdraw their endless lawsuits, and agree on a new date for a national convention.

The opposition party is currently trapped in a legal maze. Following a landmark Appeal Court ruling on Monday that validated the suspension of top party officials and voided previous convention attempts, the PDP is effectively a “ship without a captain.” Saraki, who has often acted as the party’s “Fix-It Man,” warned that if the different blocs specifically those aligned with Nyesom Wike and Tanimu Turaki continue to seek “justice” in the courts rather than the polling booth, there will be no party left to lead by 2027.

“We are essentially committing political suicide,” Saraki remarked in a statement that “flipped the script” on the party’s usual defiant rhetoric. “While we are busy arguing over who is the ‘authentic’ chairman in courtrooms, our members are leaving in droves to join the APC. You cannot lead a party of empty chairs.”

Saraki’s intervention is seen as a last-ditch effort to stop the bleeding. Just this week, the PDP lost the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, who cited the “unending legal circus” as his reason for defecting. Saraki’s roadmap is simple: a total legal ceasefire, a temporary caretaker committee made up of “unbiased elders,” and a unified convention in May. Whether the rival groups will listen or continue their march toward the Supreme Court remains the ₦1 billion question that will determine if the “Umbrella” can ever be mended.
