Defence Minister Badaru Charges Service Chiefs to Unleash ‘High-Tech’ Strategies to Crush New Terror Cells Nationwide

The Federal Government is moving to overhaul Nigeria’s internal security architecture. On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, delivered a stern mandate to the nation’s Service Chiefs: it is time to “outthink and outpace” the enemy. In a high-stakes briefing at Ship House, Abuja, the Minister demanded a shift away from conventional tactics in favor of a technology-driven, “asymmetric” onslaught against terrorists and bandits.

Flanked by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, Badaru made it clear that the Tinubu administration is finished with “reactive” security measures. “The threats we face today are constantly mutating,” the Minister stated. “We cannot fight tomorrow’s war with yesterday’s manual. I am charging you to devise new, innovative strategies that integrate real-time intelligence with overwhelming precision strikes.”

The call for a “State of Harmony” in operations comes at a critical time. With 200 U.S. military advisors already on the ground in Bauchi and Jaji providing specialized training, the Nigerian military is being pushed to optimize its use of advanced surveillance drones and cyber-monitoring tools. The goal is to create a “Seamless Intelligence-Operations Integration Framework” that allows troops to detect and neutralize threats before they reach vulnerable communities.

Badaru reminded the security leadership that the success of the President’s 2026–2030 National Development Plan rests entirely on their shoulders. “There can be no economic transformation in a climate of fear,” he warned. “Our farmers must return to the fields, and our roads must be safe. We are providing the hardware and the international partnerships; now, the nation expects the results.”

As the Service Chiefs returned to their respective headquarters to recalibrate their operations, the message from the Ministry of Defence was unmistakable: the era of excuses is over, and the era of “intelligent warfare” has officially begun.
