Akure North Council Chairman Seeks Monarchs’ Active Support Against Insecurity, Donates Official Vehicles to Boost Surveillance
The Chairman of the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, Mr. Johnson Ogunbolude, today, Friday, December 5, 2025, made a direct appeal to traditional rulers in the council, urging them to intensify their support for government efforts in combating the perennial challenge of insecurity. The appeal was made during a ceremony at the Ita Ogbolu council headquarters where the Chairman distributed official vehicles to the monarchs. Mr. Ogunbolude emphasized that the measure is a critical part of the council’s renewed strategy to address insecurity, particularly in response to past deadly attacks, including those perpetrated by suspected armed men that led to the death of over 20 farmers in rural camps months prior.
The Chairman explained that the gesture of providing official vehicles to the traditional rulers is designed to boost security surveillance, enhance their mobility, and improve local intelligence gathering within their respective domains. He stressed that this initiative aligns directly with the strategic goal of supporting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s drive to secure lives and property across the state.
Ogunbolude underscored the critical role of the traditional institution, stating that monarchs are essential for effective intelligence gathering, peacebuilding, and community vigilance—elements vital to securing Akure North’s vast farmlands and dispersed settlements. He urged the royal fathers to use the provided resources to foster stronger collaboration with security agencies, ensuring prompt intervention in vulnerable rural communities. During the event, the Chairman also disbursed stipends to 300 elderly women under a welfare scheme, noting that protecting vulnerable groups helps to sustain the community harmony necessary for security.
