Osun Night Guard Found Dead at Igbaye Workplace, Police Launch Probe as Conflicting Claims of Strangulation, Health Complications Emerge

Panic gripped the residents of Igbaye community in Osun State today, Tuesday, November 11, 2025, following the discovery of a night security guard, Basiru Aminu (38), who was found dead at his duty post in the Oke Ola area.

Aminu’s motionless body was discovered around 7:00 AM by residents and business owners arriving at the commercial centre, who immediately reported the matter to the police.

The tragic incident led to widespread speculation across the community regarding the cause of death. While some residents claimed the deceased may have been strangled by unknown assailants during the night, others opined that a sudden health complication could have been responsible for the guard’s untimely death.

A business owner in Oke Ola, who requested anonymity, confirmed the scene, saying, “We met his motionless body and immediately contacted the police. It was a sad development, and people are already insinuating that the man was killed.”

Police Order Autopsy to Determine Cause of Death

Confirming the incident, the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abiodun Ojelabi, acknowledged the conflicting reports but provided a preliminary assessment.

“The incident happened at Oke-Ola in Igbaye. They saw him, Basiru Aminu, lying dead this morning at his workplace,” Ojelabi stated. He disclosed that police investigators visited the scene to check the body for signs of external force but initially found no visible marks of violence.

The police have since evacuated the body and deposited it in a morgue. The PPRO assured the public that a thorough autopsy would be conducted to unravel the precise mystery behind Aminu’s death, emphasizing that the Command has launched a full investigation into the case.
