NSCDC FCT COMMANDANT ODUMOSU MANDATES 10KM ROUTE MARCH, MEDICAL CHECKS TO BOOST OFFICERS’ OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has issued a strong directive to his personnel to make their personal well-being a top priority, stating it is a crucial prerequisite for effective discharge of their national duties.

Dr. Odumosu made the call following the successful execution of the command’s maiden 10-kilometre route march across major areas of the FCT. The rigorous exercise, which commenced from the FCT Command Headquarters and spanned routes through Wuse Market, Wuse Zone 3, Wuye Bridge, and Berger Junction, was designed to test and build the endurance of the Corps’ officers and men.

Speaking after the march, Commandant Odumosu emphasised that physical fitness is inseparable from operational efficiency. He warned against neglecting personal health, referencing recent incidents of security operatives slumping on duty. “There is a thin line between operational efficiency and personal health,” Odumosu stated. “We cannot be weak and expect to face criminals out there. This exercise is to keep our officers fit, mentally agile, and resilient.”

The Commandant highlighted that the initiative is a key part of the command’s strategy to reposition the FCT Command for optimal service delivery. He described the periodic route march and physical training as essential for keeping officers “battle-ready” to confront complex and evolving security challenges, particularly the task of protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) from vandalism.

Beyond the physical exertion, the event concluded with essential welfare measures, including medical checks (blood pressure and blood glucose screenings) and therapeutic body massages for the participating personnel. The Command also organised sporting and recreational activities, such as tug-of-war and table tennis, to foster discipline, teamwork, and the spirit of comradeship among officers.

Dr. Odumosu charged the officers to view the exercises not as mere formalities, but as a continuous commitment to self-improvement and discipline, assuring FCT residents that the Command remains fully committed to maintaining peace and security in the capital territory.
