6.3-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Vanuatu, US Geological Survey Reports

A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck Vanuatu on Thursday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The earthquake’s epicenter was about 110 kilometers east of Luganville, the country’s second-largest city.

The tremor occurred at a depth of around 57 kilometers. Fortunately, the risk of landslides and the number of people affected were assessed to be low.

Vanuatu is located in a region known for frequent earthquakes. The country is part of the tectonic Ring of Fire, an area in the Pacific where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.
