Governor Yahaya Bello
Calls for President Tinubu to Investigate EFCC’s Activities in Kogi
The Kogi State Government has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to clarify the motive behind its relentless pursuit and public trial of the former Governor, Yahaya Bello. The government emphasized that there were no missing funds during Bello’s tenure and questioned why the anti-corruption agency is persistently targeting the state.
In a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, the government expressed concern over EFCC’s amended charges against Bello and others, suggesting political motives behind the prosecution. The government asserted that the allegations against Bello were baseless and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
The statement highlighted the state’s commitment to fighting corruption and its track record of receiving recognition for its anti-corruption efforts. It criticized EFCC’s actions as a witch-hunt orchestrated by political interests around the Presidency, aimed at discrediting Bello and the state.
The government called on President Tinubu to intervene and investigate the situation in Kogi State to prevent EFCC from being manipulated by political actors pursuing personal agendas. It emphasized the need for the anti-corruption crusade to uphold the rule of law and avoid politicization.
Assuring its continued support for the federal government’s anti-corruption efforts, the state government stressed the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability. It vowed to protect the integrity of the government and uphold its commitment to serving the people of Kogi State with honesty and dedication.
