“We’ll Guard This Vibrant Heritage,” Ogun Governor Vows at Ojude Oba

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting and elevating the annual Ojude Oba festival, describing it as a beacon of cultural identity and economic promise for the Ijebu people and beyond.

Speaking during Friday’s final procession, Abiodun celebrated the festival’s evolving legacy, stating it has transcended its origins as a local tribute to the Awujale to become a premier cultural event with national and international appeal.

“Ojude Oba is not only a cultural heritage for the indigenes of Ijebuland but has now become a significant event that attracts local and foreign tourists… showcasing our hospitality and enviable tradition to a global audience,” the governor emphasized.

Abiodun further highlighted the festival’s role as a catalyst for unity, tourism, and economic development across the region. He noted that the colorful Regberegbe age-grade parades, vibrant horse displays, and cultural showcases provide both a rich historical narrative and substantial economic stimulus for local artisans and service providers.

In line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, both the Ogun State and Federal Governments are advocating for UNESCO recognition of Ojude Oba, aiming to transform it into a globally celebrated event by 2030.

To this effect, Abiodun promised full governmental backing to maintain the festival’s authenticity while scaling its profile internationally.

Governor Abiodun concluded by reminding attendees that Ojude Oba’s vibrancy reflects Ijebu unity and resilience, urging stakeholders and youths to maintain the cultural momentum.

As Nigeria strides toward embracing its heritage on a global stage, the Ojude Oba festival remains a pulsating symbol of unity, identity, and opportunity firmly anchored for protection and growth in Ogun’s vision.
