UNIOSUN VC Professor Adebooye Urges New Intakes to Immediately Leverage NELFUND Zero-Interest Loans for Financial Support
The management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has made a strong public appeal to its students, urging all eligible candidates to immediately leverage the financial opportunities provided by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support their academic pursuits. The call was formally issued by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Clement Adebooye, while delivering an address at the matriculation ceremony for the newly admitted students of the 2025/2026 academic session on the main campus in Osogbo, an event reported today, Friday, December 5, 2025.
Professor Adebooye described the NELFUND scheme as a laudable Federal Government initiative aimed at ensuring that no willing learner is denied access to higher education due to financial constraints. He confirmed that the University is in “full partnership” with the scheme and encouraged all qualified new intakes and returning students to take advantage of the zero-interest loan facility. The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that accessing the loan is one of the multiple avenues available for students to manage the rising cost of education.
In addition to the federal loan scheme, Professor Adebooye highlighted the institution’s commitment to supporting indigent but brilliant students, revealing that UNIOSUN currently maintains over 300 scholarship opportunities that students can apply for. He assured the students that the university is working tirelessly to secure their overall welfare, specifically mentioning efforts to curb the rising exploitation faced by students from private landlords who charge exorbitant rents for accommodation around the campuses. The administration, he stated, is determined to “break the excesses of the landlords” in the coming academic session.
