Turaki-Led PDP Faction Scuttles ‘Fake’ Congress Timetable, Blasts Rival Camp for Spreading Falsehoods After Court Victory

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is fighting back against what it calls a “digital insurgency” designed to spark fresh confusion among its ranks. On Monday, March 2, the National Working Committee led by Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki categorically denied reports that it had approved a new schedule for state and local government congresses, labeling the claims as total fiction.

The confusion began over the weekend when a series of unofficial timetables began circulating on social media, suggesting that the party was rushing into fresh elections following its major legal victory in Ibadan last Saturday. However, National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong was quick to throw cold water on the rumors, warning that the “fake news” was likely manufactured by a rival faction to destabilize the party’s newfound legal stability.

“We have not scheduled any congresses for March,” Ememobong stated. “Our current focus is on the administrative cleanup and reconciliation process following the Oyo State High Court judgment which affirmed Dr. Turaki as our legitimate National Chairman. Those spreading these dates are mischief-makers who are unhappy with the ‘State of Harmony’ returning to the PDP.”

The party’s leadership warned its millions of members to remain vigilant and only take instructions from the officially recognized NWC. The denial is seen as a strategic move to prevent “parallel congresses” a problem that has historically torn the PDP apart. For now, the Turaki camp is choosing to focus on the boardroom rather than the ballot box, as they move to re-establish their authority with INEC and prepare for the 2027 general elections.
