Tinubu to Commission FCT Projects in Area Councils for Second Anniversary – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu will commission key projects in at least one Area Council as part of activities to mark his second year in office.

Wike made this known on Saturday while speaking with journalists during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects in the Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Bwari Area Councils in Abuja.

He emphasized that the President’s visit will not be limited to the city center, noting that the commissioning will offer residents of the satellite towns an opportunity to engage directly with the President.

“We are going to work it out so that he (Tinubu) visits one or two Area Councils. The people need to see their President. It’s not just about commissioning projects in the city; he wants to connect with the grassroots as well,” Wike said.

He added that President Tinubu remains committed to developing both urban areas and satellite towns in the FCT.

Wike recalled that in 2024, Tinubu commissioned several major projects in Abuja, including the Abuja Metro Rail, the 27km Southern Parkway linking the Christian Ecumenical Centre to Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway, and the M18 Road in Guzape District, which was named after literary icon Chinua Achebe.

Highlighting ongoing projects to be commissioned, Wike mentioned the Market Road, Palace Road, and Radio House Road in Gwagwalada, a 15km stretch in A2-Pai (Kwali Area Council), and roads in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council, connecting communities to key institutions like the National War College.

“These projects show that Mr. President is serious about developing satellite towns. The ease of access to the city will improve, and residents can live comfortably while commuting to work,” he added.

The Minister also praised the contractors for maintaining high standards and delivering quality infrastructure ahead of schedule.
