Tinubu Has Deviated from APC Objectives, Principles – ADC Membership Mobilisation Secretary, Yar’adua

The National Secretary of Membership Mobilisation and Registration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Sadiq Yar’adua, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of deviating from the core objectives and principles of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In an interview, Yar’adua, a former foundation member of the APC, claimed that the ruling party has abandoned its foundational values.

Yar’adua, a former Senator, stated that he left the APC because he no longer believed in its values, particularly the commitment to fighting corruption. “You and I know the level of corruption in the country now, led by APC leaders,” he said, adding that the government has become subservient to international monetary organizations like the IMF and the World Bank.

When asked about the ADC’s poor performance in recent by-elections, Yar’adua dismissed the polls as “buy-elections,” arguing that they were not a true reflection of the party’s strength. He attributed the results to a compromised Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which he accused of being biased towards the ruling party.

Despite the ADC’s lack of governors or senators, Yar’adua expressed confidence in the party’s strategy, stating that they are building a “mass movement” driven by values and issues, not personalities. He downplayed concerns about prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi yet to officially join the party, stating that they will register when the party’s new registration begins.

Yar’adua’s comments underscore the growing rift between some members of the opposition and the ruling party, with the ADC pledging to build a strong grassroots movement to challenge the APC in the 2027 general elections.
