“Serve Well and Get a Job!” Governor Otti Promises Automatic Employment and Better Pay for NYSC Members in Abia

Serving in Abia State just got a whole lot more exciting for the latest batch of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. Governor Alex Otti has raised the stakes by promising that if you work hard and stand out, you won’t need to look for a job after your service year the state government will hire you immediately.

The Governor made this “dream offer” on Friday at the Umunna Orientation Camp while welcoming over 1,800 new corps members. He told the excited youths that Abia is a place where “what you can do” matters much more than “where you are from.” To prove his point, he cited the state’s current Head of Service, who originally came from Edo State but stayed back to build a career in Abia after his own service year.

But the good news didn’t stop at future jobs. Otti reminded the corps members that they are currently serving in one of the most “corper-friendly” states in Nigeria. With the recent increase in state allowances, some members will be taking home up to N50,000 extra on top of their federal “allowee,” especially those helping out in schools and clinics.

“Don’t waste this one year,” the Governor warned. “You are shortchanging yourself if you don’t take advantage of the opportunities here.” He encouraged them to join the state’s training programs in ICT and farming to prepare for life after the uniform.

To make their stay more comfortable, the Governor also promised to continue fixing up the orientation camp. New internal roads and a better parade ground are already on the way, ensuring that the “Bende experience” is one they will remember for the right reasons.

As the swearing-in ceremony ended, the message was clear: in the “New Abia,” if you contribute to the state’s growth, the state will definitely take care of your future.
