Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to comprehensive infrastructure development across the state during the commissioning of newly completed roads in Badagry Local Government Area and Olorunda Local Council Development Area on Wednesday.
Speaking at the unveiling, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the residents of Badagry for their patience and cooperation throughout the construction period, acknowledging the temporary disruptions that accompanied the projects.
“Your understanding and support made these transformative road projects possible,” he said. “This spirit of partnership has helped us overcome major obstacles and deliver roads that will boost daily life and regional growth.”
The governor reiterated his administration’s goal of using infrastructure to stimulate trade, tourism, and economic activity, especially in historically significant but underserved areas.
“We are deliberately investing in infrastructure to unlock the tourism potential of Lagos. Improved road networks are key to connecting people, enabling commerce, and opening up remote regions,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He assured that development efforts will extend to every part of the state, including roads, drainage, and other critical public amenities.
“True and sustainable development must be inclusive. Every nook and cranny of Lagos deserves access to modern infrastructure,” the governor emphasized.
🛣️ Projects Commissioned
Among the roads inaugurated were Samuel Ekundayo/Toga Road and Hospital Road—strategic routes designed to improve interconnectivity and support tourism near historical landmarks such as the General Hospital, Agiya Tree Monument, and Slave Trade Relics/Town Hall.
The Samuel Ekundayo/Toga Road now offers an alternative to a segment of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, linking Badagry Roundabout to Limca/Ibereko and easing traffic congestion in the area.
Meanwhile, Hospital Road, located near Badagry Marina, was described as a vital water transport corridor connecting the community to Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, and even to neighboring West African countries.
“With the completion of Phase II, we’ve achieved significant progress in interconnecting Badagry’s communities,” Sanwo-Olu noted.
🚧 Call for Responsibility
Concluding his remarks, the governor urged residents and community leaders to take ownership of the newly delivered infrastructure.
“Guard these roads jealously. Preserve them for future generations. These are investments in your community’s future,” he said.
The commissioning event further emphasized Sanwo-Olu’s drive to implement infrastructure as a tool for statewide development and economic upliftment, with Badagry now positioned as a key beneficiary of this broader agenda.
