President Tinubu Unveils 2,000 Tractors, Pledges to Revitalize Agriculture and Attract Youth

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially launched a significant agricultural mechanization initiative, unveiling 2,000 tractors and vowing to make farming a more attractive and profitable venture for Nigerian youths. The unveiling ceremony took place on Thursday, June 20, 2025, at the launch of the second phase of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) mechanization program in Abuja.

President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to boosting food security and achieving food sufficiency across the nation. He emphasized that the introduction of modern agricultural machinery is a critical step towards realizing these goals, as it will enhance productivity and efficiency in the farming sector.

During the event, President Tinubu outlined a comprehensive strategy to engage and empower the younger generation in agriculture. He stated that his administration would offer special incentives and support systems to encourage youth participation, including training in modern farming techniques, access to credit facilities, and provision of improved seeds and other inputs. The president stressed that making farming technologically advanced and economically viable is essential to draw youths away from unemployment and into productive agricultural ventures.

The tractors, part of a broader government effort to mechanize Nigerian agriculture, are expected to be distributed to farmers and farmer cooperatives under various schemes designed to ensure their optimal utilization. This initiative aims to reduce the reliance on manual labor, which has often been a deterrent for young people considering careers in farming.

The President’s commitment comes as Nigeria grapples with challenges in food production and high rates of youth unemployment. By investing in agricultural mechanization and actively promoting youth involvement, the government hopes to create new jobs, boost local food production, and reduce dependence on food imports. This program aligns with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” and its focus on transforming key sectors of the Nigerian economy.
