President Tinubu Says Security is a Shared Duty, Not Just for One Man; Urges Nigerians to Report Suspicious Activity After Eid Prayers

President Bola Tinubu has called on all Nigerians to step up as “partners in security” to ensure the country remains stable. Speaking to journalists at the Dodan Barracks prayer ground in Lagos on Friday, March 20, 2026, the President made it clear that while the government is working hard, the safety of the nation depends on the vigilance of every citizen.

“The bedrock of development lies in peaceful and harmonious coexistence,” Tinubu said, shortly after completing the Eid-el-Fitr prayers marking the end of Ramadan. He noted that the recent security challenges, including the thwarted attacks in Borno, serve as a reminder that criminals live within communities. He challenged Nigerians to “report suspicious movements across the length and breadth of the country,” insisting that such actions are a patriotic responsibility.

The President also linked the spiritual lessons of the season to nation-building. He explained that the “union of wills” seen during the simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent should be the foundation for a more united Nigeria. According to the President, if Nigerians can maintain the same level of compassion and tolerance they showed during their fast, the country will naturally become more difficult for “agents of instability” to penetrate.

Accompanying the President at the prayer ground were top officials, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. As the festive weekend continues, the President’s message serves as a reminder that the “Solution” to Nigeria’s safety concerns requires a collective effort from the villa to the village.
